Ad Space

Ad space is the content area within an ad slot where an advertisement is actually displayed. While the terms ad space and ad slot are often used interchangeably, they refer to distinct concepts.

The ad slot is the container — the structural frame or code construct that defines where advertising can appear on a page or screen. The ad space is the usable interior of that container: the region that the creative itself occupies.

A billboard analogy makes the distinction clear: the grounded metal frame and support structure represent the ad slot, while the white panel inside the frame — where the poster or creative is placed — is the ad space.
