A consent-management platform (CMP) is a technical tool that enables websites to meet regulatory requirements around consent collection. With a CMP in place, a website can inform visitors about the types of data it intends to collect and request their consent for specific data-processing purposes.

Consent management, more broadly, refers to the end-to-end process of collecting regulatory-compliant consent from website visitors — covering how consent is presented, recorded, and honoured. CMPs provide the underlying infrastructure to operationalize that process, typically through a configurable consent notice or banner that surfaces at the point of a visitor's first interaction with a site.
