Ad Verification

Also known as: verification services

Ad verification is an umbrella term for the processes that allow advertisers to check whether their ads are appearing in the right context, on the right websites, in the right area of a page, and in front of the right audiences.

In practice, advertisers use ad verification to confirm that the actual attributes of a served ad match the parameters defined in their campaign settings — such as site allowlists or blocklists, geographic targets, or content category requirements. When a discrepancy exists between what was specified and what was delivered, verification surfaces it.

The mechanism typically relies on verification tags, also called beacons, which are deployed alongside the ad inside the ad markup. These tags analyze the content of the publisher's page at the moment of serving, checking for site appropriateness and compliance with the campaign's targeting constraints. Brand safety, viewability, and geographic accuracy are among the most common dimensions verified through this approach.
