Piggybacking
Piggybacking is a pixel-tracking mechanism in which the firing of one pixel automatically triggers pixels from one or more other platforms to fire as well. In practice, a single user action — such as a page load or conversion event — sets off a chain reaction where multiple tracking tags execute in sequence, each collecting or passing data on behalf of a different platform.
The technique is commonly used in two scenarios: cookie syncing, where multiple platforms align their user identifiers by firing their respective sync pixels together, and conversion tracking, where an advertiser or publisher wants several platforms to register the same conversion event without requiring separate integrations for each.
